Track Subgrade Repair
For track maintenance applications, the Geopier GeoSpike℠ system is a rapidly installed, low-cost method for strengthening weak railroad track subgrades. This minimally invasive system consists of installing stiff HDPE elements between ties to transfer track loads through weak subgrade soils and into competent bearing soils. These elements can be installed without removing railroad tracks, ties, or ballast.
Slope Stability
The Geopier SRT® an be used to stabilize slopes on existing railway embankments that experience shallow slides. The SRT system is ideal for constrained right of ways and eliminates the need for massive earthwork and site disruption.
New Railroad Construction
Geopier Rammed Aggregate Pier® (RAP) systems can be used to strengthen soils below new tracks, embankments, and retaining walls. The high stiffness of the Geopier elements reduces short-term and long-term settlement (eliminating lengthy preload periods) and increases the factor of safety against global instability.
